Fractal Benchmark, Rubinius included

September 5, 2007 at 7:00 am (Uncategorized)

Today I stumbled upon Fractal Benchmark site. I then tried to run some of the implementations, especially Java and Ruby. I also test with rubinius (svn checkout from trunk, dated 2007-09-05), following the latest benchmark and JRuby (Debian package 1.0). I run them without any additional parameters.
Here’s my findings:

Java : Java Elapsed 0.191
Ruby : Ruby Elapsed 8.459344
Rubinius : Ruby Elapsed 20.921316
JRuby : Ruby Elapsed 87.457000

Apparently, performance-wise, Rubinius and JRuby still have a long way to catch.
PS: Tried to use JIT in JRuby, hardly any difference. Compiling with jrubyc results error indicating the class is not compilable
